Where is everyone going? Mortgage Professionals are leaving the industry in droves. To the ordinary on-looker this is a very scary time. Most people are looking at the Real Estate and Mortgage businesses and wondering why anyone would be in that field. All we hear about is how terrible the subprime market is, all the mortgage companies are closing, home prices and sales are plummeting, and foreclosures are skyrocketing. What could be worse? The real question is what could be better?

Okay, that is a little sadistic, but the truth is it all depends on how you look at it. This is a great time to be in the mortgage business. Many mortgage and real estate professionals are currently netting $100,000's and even $1,000,000's each year!

Those who have been in the business for a long time already know what I am about to say. However, those who are new to this business are probably struggling and asking themselves why they ever got into this business.

The key is to look at the real estate market just like stock or a house or any other investment: buy low and sell high. Now, while the real estate market is slow, is the time to get your mortgage marketing system in place. Now is the time to tweak, fine tune, and perfect your business so it is operating at peak efficiency when the market does turn around.

This is the weeding out period in the mortgage and real estate business. Those who are not serious will walk away or be forced out. The strong will survive and come out stronger than ever. Now is time to hone your skills and really make your business strong. That way when the real estate market turns around, which we all know it will, you will be in the best position to excel.

The good news is you do not have to wait for the market to turn around to become profitable. You can do it right NOW! Many mortgage and real estate professionals are netting $100,000's and even $1,000,000's each year and you can do that also.

The key is to be smart about what you are doing. You have to know how to market yourself and your business. To be a successful mortgage or real estate professional you have to realize that you are not really in the real estate business you are in the marketing business. You have heard this many times before, you need to know how to select and focus on a niche then really promote your business so that people see you as the expert. A generalist cannot possibly be an expert in everything. You want to continually learn how to focus your business so you are not running in a hundred different directions. You need to continually learn new and innovative ways to market and promote your business. You will be amazed; it will be like having your own mortgage lead generator in place. Leads will actually come knocking on your door for your services.

Here are some quick ideas for ways to market your business and make yourself the expert without spending a lot of money:

  • Create your own blog, forum, or ezine (electronic newsletter). This is very simple and is practically free.
  • Run ads in the local newspaper, in trade journals, on the radio, or on TV.
  • Join local associations that are relevant to your industry.
  • Host your own TV and Radio show. It does not matter which radio or TV station you do this for. This is easier to setup than you think.
  • Put together your own Magalog - a newspaper or magazine that you put together that highlights you, your products and services.

All of these techniques can be used to get your audience to view you as the expert. If you spend any time focusing on your niche, you will know more than most of the people in your arena. You WILL be the expert.
